GoMeetNow is a pretty straightforward web conferencing service that focuses on making it as easy as possible for your guests to join meetings. It provides a good number of features, but there are a couple of things missing that may put some potential customers off opting for this service. The pricing plans are ideal if you only want a small number of participants or are looking for a flexible plan which allows you to change the number of participants on a month-by-month basis as you can pay for exactly the number that you require.
The main functionality of this site allows you to share your desktop with the participants of a meeting. All your guests can view your desktop and it is possible to pass keyboard and mouse control to one of them or allow them to present from their own desktop. For privacy you can choose whether to share your whole desktop or just one application - an extra handy feature is that if a new application unexpectedly pops up, GoMeetNow will pause the meeting so that it doesn't get displayed to the guests.
Communication during the meeting is limited to choosing between just using the text chat facilities or dialling into the free audio conferencing service provided. The audio conference integrates with the web conference, but your guests must dial in and incur the call charges associated with doing so. It would have been nice to see integrated VOIP functionality, or even the option of a toll free conferencing number, so that guests can dial into a conference without being charged. The system has improved in recent years and now offers HD webcam support so that you can provide a live video feed.
GoMeetNow guarantees that guests will always be able to join the meeting as long as they have a reasonably modern web browser. This means they don't have to download anything and so can even join from mobile devices like the iPhone. Once in a meeting the service seemed quite reliable, although we did drop the connection a couple of times when connecting from a mobile device. We also noticed that, although SSL encryption is used when transmitting passwords and meeting room codes, the actual communications during a meeting are not encrypted. This means that, theoretically, someone could intercept the meeting traffic and find out what you are talking about.
GoMeetNow offers a strong but not outstanding service, both in terms of functionality and price. The lack of encryption and web cam support seems like a fairly major oversight when developing a web conferencing service and will likely put many people off. However it does have a few neat features which allow conference participants to get a little more involved, which aren’t always available with other service providers. We would recommend GoMeetNow.com to customers who are looking for a flexible plan which provides web conferencing for smaller numbers. If you’re looking for something which can provide a service for large numbers of attendees then we recommend looking elsewhere.
