Editor's Verdict:

Voxwire offers a decent web conferencing service which is purely browser based and includes most of the features necessary for a productive conference. The user interface is intuitive and easy to use and the monthly charges aren't too unreasonable. However, although there is an online knowledgebase for support, if you want to talk to a support technician the call charges are through the roof.

Starting a meeting with Voxwire is easy to do and the web based interface provides a form for sending out email invitations with a link to the meeting. Once in a meeting you can broadcast your desktop to the other participants and share files easily between computers. Since the whole application is web based you can share your desktop whatever operating system you are running and your guests can join from almost any web browser. There are also handy whiteboarding tools which allow you to highlight important points on the screen when giving a presentation.

For communications Voxwire provides integrated support for VOIP so that participants can communicate using a microphone attached to their computer. In addition, anyone in the meeting can broadcast from their webcam; the only limitation to the number of people who can do this is the speed of your internet connection. Unlike some companies, Voxwire does not provide a bridged teleconferencing service so your guest must be in front of a computer to join in. While this might not be a problem for most people, it can be handy to have integrated teleconferencing so that people can join in a meeting when they aren't near an internet connection.

The reliability of Voxwire's service seemed pretty good and we had no problems during our tests. However, if you do have problems the telephone support line costs $25 per 15 minutes, which in our opinion, is extortionate. Granted, there is an extensive online knowledgebase and technically you should be able to chat to a support representative online (although we couldn't get hold of one), but this is still a ridiculously high price for support when some other companies offer it for free.

Voxwire isn't a bad service and works pretty well for the most part. However, the lack of a teleconferencing facility might eventually prove to be a bit of a nuisance and if you have any problems be prepared to shell out for the extremely expensive technical support number. For some other serves to compare against why not have a look at some of the products in our top ten list of web conferencing services.
